5th INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC COMPETITION HELD BY PETON AND UFA STATE PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

2022-05-30

5th International Student Competition named after Professor K.F. Bogatykh in the discipline of Engineering of Chemistry Processes and Vessels was hosted by the Ufa State Petroleum Technological University (USPTU) in Ufa.

The first K.F. Bogatykh Competition took place in 2017, when the students from 5 Russian universities visited Ufa. 4 years ago, in 2018, the event gained an international status, when students from CIS countries took part in the competition for the first time. In 2021, competition organizers expanded its format, and the students could participate both in person and remotely. After the active pandemic phase, the organizers decided to retain mixed live/remote format of the event to provide access to the competition to the widest circle of students.

In the same year, 80 students from Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Cuba and African countries took part in the competition. The competition was held in both in-person and remote format, as an individual and team event. Senior full-time students of the universities, carrying out training programmes including the discipline of Engineering of Chemistry Processes and Vessels, were invited to participate in the Competition.

Students of the following universities participated in person: Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, Tomsk National Research Polytechnic University, Samara State Technical University, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Gubkin Russian State Oil&Gas University, «MIREA - Russian Technological University, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin, Kazan National Research Technological University, Yaroslavl State Technical University, St. Petersburg Mining University, St. Petersburg State Technological Institute (Technical University).

Remote participation was provided for students of Tver State Technical University, St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, Omsk State University named after F. M. Dostoevsky, Amur State University, Sumgait State University (the Republic of Azerbaijan).

Traditionally, Peton Technology Engineering Holding is a founder and general sponsor of the competition for the fifth year in a row.

PETON is one of the largest engineering companies in Russia and industry leader among Bashkortostan employers. Engineering is a science-driven area, and PETON is interested both in a search of talented young specialists, who will be able to adapt rapidly and hook immediately into solving demanding tasks to be addressed by the Company, and in supporting the professional prestige of process engineers, researchers and designers, and assistance to a young researcher community in knowledge exchange, and to higher educational institutions in the rise of educational standards. Regarding this area SRDI O&G Peton arranges student competitions, provides scholarships dedicated to B. K. Marushkin to the best students, implements an internship program to provide young specialists with a chance to prove themselves.

At the present time, it is more important for our country than ever to develop its own technologies and support science represented by young scientists - students of professional universities. It’s up to the young generation to solve current scientific and engineering issues in a creative way, to overcome all challenges we face now, and to surpass the older generation of specialists within mentorship programs. Today they deal with complex tasks, tomorrow they will shape the future of the oil and gas industry.

“Processes and Vessels is a fundamental area defining basic technical solutions in development of resource-efficient technologies. The milestone 5th International Competition in Processes and Vessels dedicated to K. F. Bogatykh showed the extension of this competitive movement ensuring training of talented, active students thinking out of box and ready to join the ranks of young specialists capable of making innovative decisions, in the area of import substitution as well, which is a critical strategic task for our country,” Svetlana Churakova, Head of Mass Transfer Equipment Department of SRDI O&G Peton told in her speech at the opening of the competition.

Tatyana Prosochkina, the head in charge of the Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology Department of Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, has noted that the tasks were developed by employees of the process engineering holding SRDI O&G Peton LLC, represented mainly by USPTU graduates and teachers from the same department. “There was a total of 10 tasks of different difficulty levels. The participants showed a very high level of expertise. These results are satisfying. All guests have promised to come in the next year as well,” Tatyana Prosochkina said.

The first place in team trial of the 5th International Student competition was shared by the students of Ufa State Petroleum Technical University and MIREA - Russian Technological University. Denis Pletnyov, a student from MIREA - Russian Technological University, took the first place in the individual trial.

“I’m excited with my victory. Last year, I reached the 3rd place and set myself a goal to take the first place. And I succeeded! The task were diverse and interesting, I ran out of time a bit and didn’t solve all tasks as it took a lot of cumbersome calculations. I will defend Master’s Thesis soon and then I’ll enter research degree in Engineering of Chemistry Processes and Vessels,” Denis Pletnyov related us.

PETON prepared valuable prizes and memorable gifts for all participants and winners.
