2021-10-20

Defence of projects for a scholarship named after Professor B. K. Marushkin for 2021/2022 academic year was held on the 19th of October at the Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology Department of Ufa State Petroleum Technological University (USPTU).

For the onsite round of the scholarship contest, 5 best applicant papers were selected out of 29 applications. The topics of the projects are diverse - from the development of resource and energy-saving technologies based on mathematical modeling and up-to-date processes that increase the oil refining efficiency to technologies for the coking process and the use of pinch analysis in the development of energy-saving technologies.

“I am especially proud that our technology students have become the finalists,” said Farhad Vildanov, Technology Faculty Dean. “Thanks to this event, you learn what a real industrial expertise is. I would like to note that PETON is one of the leading companies in the field of design and engineering, its up-to-date solutions are being introduced at the largest gas and oil refineries not only in Russia, but also in the CIS. PETON is our long-term industrial partner. The cooperation between the university and the company has provided many opportunities for unlocking students’ potential.”

According to the results of the defence, Diana Gaisina, a 4th year student of Oil & Gas Technology Department, became the winner.

“I was very pleased to take part in the contest, to find out the current trends in the field of oil and gas processing, modeling of processes, and so forth. This is my first scholarship from NIPI NG PETON, and it is very valuable for me that the endeavours and efforts invested were noticed,” Diana shared her impressions.

The second place was taken by Sofia Fiterman, a student of BTGi-19-01 group. And the third was shared by Veronika Ilikbaeva (BOS-19-01), Zarina Timerbaeva (BTSi-19-01) and Galiya Kamalova (BTSi-19-01) having gained the same number of points.

Thus, there were no losers in the contest! All five participants won prizes.

“The contest is held for the fourth year in a row, and we are pleased to note that the quality of work is constantly improving. We will be happy to wait for all of you within the walls of PETON Holding as trainees, and then as employees,” Svetlana Churakova, Professor of Petrochemistry and Chemical Technology Department at USPTU, Mass Transfer Equipment Department Manager at NIPI NG PETON, addressed the scholarship holders.

Note that Scientific and Research Institute of Oil and Gas “PETON” is one of the leading employers in Bashkortostan, and the Company places special emphasis on enhancing the scientific potential of promising young professionals. Such contests with the possibility of obtaining a personal scholarship really motivate students to continue to engage not only in education, but also in science.

The purpose of the contest for a scholarship named after Professor B. K. Marushkin is to enable students to elaborate relevant issues of oil and gas processing and to develop innovative thinking by analysing and proposing reasonable solutions to the problems of the industry.
